Crisis Communications
University Communications is responsible for managing official communications with the campus community and public during emergencies and other critical incidents that impact Sonoma State University.
In the event of a crisis, our role is to provide timely, accurate, and clear information that supports community safety and keeps students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders well-informed.
We work in conjunction with the Emergency Operations Center, Police Department, and Risk Management and Safety Services.
Emergency Communication Channels
During a critical situation, information will be communicated through a variety of platforms, including:
- SSU’s emergency notification system
- Official SSU email (when available)
- SSU social media channels Instagram, Facebook, Linkedin
- Updates on the SSU homepage and emergency website
- Messages on the SSU Emergency Information Line: 1-888-533-5388
- Updates via the SSU main line: 707-664-2880 directing callers to the emergency line.
Guidelines for the Campus Community
In an emergency, please do not contact the Sonoma State University Police Department for information unless you are reporting an urgent threat. Instead, monitor official SSU communication channels for updates. University Police Department is responsible for managing the emergency response itself.
